The latest news on Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister :
- A 12-member Enforcement Directorate team ( ED), with a search order in the excise case, arrived at the official residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kjriwal. Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, was then arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This is the first time in independent India that a sitting chief has been arrested. His party has confirmed that he will remain in the position.
- ED took action after the Delhi High Court refused to grant Arvind Kejriwal protection from arrest in the liquor case. Kejriwal refused to answer the ED’s summons, claiming that the summons were illegal.
- Kejriwal will appear before a PMLA court (Prevention of Money Laundering Act), on Friday. The ED is going to ask for his custody so that he can be interrogated.
- Parvesh verma, BJP ‘s MP, commented on Kejriwal being arrested, saying that he had harmed many lives in Delhi through alcoholism, and that his arrest marked the end of a corrupt era.
- AAP workers gathered outside Kejriwal ‘s home in large numbers, prompting Delhi Police to deploy surveillance drones. After Kejriwal was arrested, several protesting workers have been detained.
- In response to the recent developments, four paramilitary companies and more than 100 Delhi Police personnel were deployed around the Enforcement Directorate Headquarters.
- Priyanka Priyanka Priyanka Gandhi, Congress leader, criticized Kejriwal arrest. She called it an unconstitutional and wrongful act motivated by political motives. She criticized the use of institution power to achieve political goals, highlighting the erosion of democratic values. Gandhi cited the freezing of opposition party bank accounts, the constant pressure of investigative agencies against political leaders, and two chief ministers’ imprisonment as indicators of a worrying trend in India’s democratic history.
